The intervention seeks to articulate the overlapping, yet undefined, traces of life at the Lavatoio of Cabbio: of landscape and building, water and infrastructure, history and restoration, people, and memory. As initially the only source of water for the village, the Lavatoio was also a key social place for the collective: a spill-out area for the old Osteria, a reading spot of letters from those who left the village, a gathering point for the kids, or an afternoon respite for those on the way back with the freshly dried chestnuts. Now, it stands as a monument to the past, having lost its vitality. A shared plant watering can and a dog water bowl remain for those in transit – displays of collectiveness that reveal the potential for new encounters
